Most popular songs follow a predictable map. Knowing it helps you write, perform and listen with sharper ears.

  • Intro - sets the mood, often instrumental.
  • Verse - tells the story, lyrics change each time.
  • Pre-chorus - builds tension toward the hook.
  • Chorus - the memorable hook; lyrics stay the same.
  • Bridge - a contrasting section, usually once, after the second chorus.
  • Outro - the landing.

A common map: V-C-V-C-B-C
