MIDI controllers and DAWs
~5 min read
A MIDI controller is any device that sends MIDI - a keyboard, pad grid, wind controller, even a smartphone app. Pair it with a DAW (Logic, Ableton, FL Studio, Reaper, Cubase) and you have a full studio.
- Keyboard controllers: 25, 49, 61, or 88 keys. Choose based on space and skill.
- Pad controllers: grids of velocity-sensitive pads. Great for drums and clip launching.
- Wind controllers, breath controllers, MPE-capable keyboards: more expressive than on/off velocity.
