Weather vs climate
~5 min read
Weather is what you wear today. Climate is what's in your closet. Weather is short-term atmosphere; climate is the long-term average and variability.
Earth's climate is shaped by solar energy, ocean currents, ice cover, atmospheric composition, and increasingly by human activity. CO2 levels have risen from ~280 ppm (pre-industrial) to over 420 ppm today, the highest in at least 800,000 years.
